Job overview

Birmingham Ormiston Academy is a 14-19 academy specialising in Creative, Digital and Performing Arts. The Academy opened in September 2011 and has over 1000 students.  We are seeking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic Assistant SENDCo to support the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of SEND provision across the academy. The Assistant SENDCO plays a key role in promoting high-quality teaching, effective use of resources, and improved outcomes for students with additional needs. This role includes contributing to the development of inclusive practices, leading intervention strategies, supporting staff development, liaising with external agencies, and line managing the SEND support team.

The academy is looking for someone who has:

  • A strong work ethic and a passion for learning;

  • A strong desire to make a difference to the lives of our students;

  • Experience in a similar role or at least 3 years' experience as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant;

  • Successful completion of the Level 5 Assistant SENCO Apprenticeship (or similar qualification);

  • Experience of leading learning activities for small groups of students;

  • A good understanding of important curriculum developments for students, particularly those with additional needs;

  • The ability to demonstrate their ability and experience matches the job description for the role;

  • The skills and characteristics outlined in the person specification for the role;

  • An excellent record of attendance and punctuality.

Salary: Support Staff Scale Point 9 - £24,774 term time + 10 days only (£27,254 FTE) to Support Staff Scale Point 25 - £33,054 term-time only (£36,363 FTE)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Please note: This is a term-time only + 10 days role, hence the pro-rated salary range. All national pay scales are pending approval.
