16 to 19 Bursaries
In September 2011, the government introduced a bursary fund providing support to young people from less advantaged backgrounds, living in England, to meet the cost of participating in post-16 education and training.
Students in Years 12 and 13 will be eligible for a bursary of up to £1,200 a year if they are:
- Young people in care
- Care leavers
- Young people in receipt of income support or in receipt of Universal Credit in their own name
- Young people in receipt of Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or in receipt of ESA and a Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
Students in Years 12 and 13 who are eligible for Free School Meals or with a household income of less than £28,000 may be eligible for a bursary of up to £950 a year.
SCHEDULE:
At the start of the academic year, you should submit your application for a 16 to 19 Bursary by 30th September.
If your circumstances change at any point in the year, you can still apply for the 16 to 19 Bursary and, at the Principal's discretion, payments may be backdated. We cannot backdate any payments to include the previous academic year.
YEAR 12:
As all 16 to 19 Bursaries are dependent on good attendance, you must first enrol and demonstrate good attendance ahead of the Academy making any payments. The 16 to 19 Bursary is split into six equal payments (one per half term) across the academic year. If your application is successful and you have demonstrated good attendance, you will receive the first payment by the third week of October. This payment will include the backdated payment for the first half-term and will include the payment for the second half-term (Nov-Dec). All subsequent payments will be made at the start of each half-term.
