What will I learn on this course?
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is an intensive and exciting 2 year course, delivered by highly qualified teaching staff who cover different aspects of the Performing Arts Dance programme. The focus of the course is on the study of dance within a vocational context. You will develop the technical, expressive and performance skills necessary to progress onto further vocational or higher education in dance; alongside developing the choreographic, contextual and theoretical knowledge that will enable you to be successful on the course.
How is the course structured?
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma includes 7 mandatory units and 6 optional units studied across 2 years. Within the mandatory units are 5 externally assessed units that will be divided up so they complete some in their first year and the reminder in their second year of the course. (These exams are set by the exam board.)
How will I study?
You will study a broad range of dance and movement techniques over the two years which will include a selection of:
- Classical Ballet Technique
- Tap Dance Technique
- Jazz Dance Technique
- Street Dance Technique
- Contemporary Dance Technique
- Physical Theatre Techniques
How will I be assessed?
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Dance consists of 13 units which will be studied over two years. There are externally assessed tasks which are set by the exam board. The remaining units are personalised to each student and are assessed internally and externally moderated by the exam board. You will be assessed through both studio and live performance, in addition to being video recorded for the majority of your external units. There is a significant proportion of written work which is as important as practical dance work and as such students will develop their academic skills to the same high level as their practical work.
