EDEXCEL BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music
How will I study?
Students are provided with a broad based music curriculum and have the opportunity to study a wide range of musical fields.
All students will learn to compose and arrange music involving a variety of instruments. A wide range of themes include solo performance skills, world music and music in the community. Working and developing as a musical ensemble is a key part of the course and skills are developed in performance techniques. The course introduces a practical approach to operating sequencing software. Music theory includes a study of harmony and rhythm. Students will also learn about musical styles and periods that influence modern musical practices. The teaching staff are all active musicians. Performances will take place throughout the course at a range of different public venues as well as within BOA itself. The course finishes with a major performance at a popular Birmingham venue.
The course is based in a purpose built facility including 9 practice rooms and a recording studio linked to a control room with mixing facilities. The course suits those with a passion for music who wish to extend their musical experience before embarking on a career in the music industry.
How will I be assessed?
All coursework is internally assessed and verified regularly through assignments. There is no exam, although final performances should be treated as examined events.
The qualification is broadly equivalent to 3 'A' levels. Students can achieve up to 360 UCAS points which means they can choose whether to go straight into employment or go into higher education first.
