BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Acting

What will I learn on this course?

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is a practically intense two year vocational course that is aimed at students who have a natural talent in acting combined with creative ability and an interest in the developing their skills for a role within the performance industry. The course is delivered by knowledgeable and experienced staff in state-of-the-art facilities.

 

Students will explore varied acting styles and techniques through practical performance based workshops, coursework, internal and external performances.  Students will be expected to work as part of a group, responding to a range of stimuli and challenging their personal and creative potential alongside the acquisition of drama and theatre techniques.  Students will be required to undertake independent rehearsal, study and research to inform and enhance their learning and development.

How is the course structured?

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Acting consists of 18 specific skills units studied over two years. These are   individually assessed with Pass, Merit and Distinction grades.

 

You will explore a range of units some of which include:

Principles of Acting
Drama Improvisation
Devising
Rehearsing for performance
Performing to an audience

 

You will also study Performing Arts Business and the Historical Context of Performance which will underpin  other units.

How will I study?

BOA work in partnership with the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and have two associate directors who work extensively on performance projects throughout the region. You will be given the opportunity to become a part of these:

Practical workshops and guest lectures with visiting professionals
Theatre visits
Partnerships with local artists and companies
Collaborations with other pathways
Extra-curricular classes and opportunities

 

You will take part in a variety of projects and performances over the two years, including community and touring performances and a range of smaller performances and workshops. Many of these may be created in collaboration with our partners and industry professionals.

 

This course will prepare you for entry to Higher Education courses such as theatre or teaching, vocational training, apprenticeships and employment within the creative and performance industries as a performer or administrator.
