Employment / Self Employment

Moving directly into Employment or Self-Employment accounted for 6% of students from BOA in 2022.

Many of our students, freshly equipped with a multitude of skills and knowledge gained at BOA, move directly into the world of work.

The experience of working alongside our partner organisations also leads to a range of employment and self-employment opportunities for our students.

Over the years, students from BOA have found permanent jobs within; the Music Industry, at Theatres including the New Alex and Old Rep, with communication companies, within education, within the leisure and tourism industry including Birmingham Airport and on cruise ships, within the Hotel Industry, within retail at companies such as John Lewis and Waitrose, within the military in the RAF and British Army and within the engineering sector at BMW.

One Musical Theatre student recently took his opportunity to audition for the BBC Talent Show ‘Let it Shine!’ He got through to the semi-finals and impressed the judges including Dannii Minogue and Martin Kemp. Although his group did not win, he was contacted by Gary Barlow after the show and was asked to be an understudy for the complete run of his new touring musical, ‘The Band’. Our former student was pleased to accept and is now regularly performing on tour.

Another student having completed his Broadcast studies at BOA went on to become Founder member and Director of his own midlands based creative video agency. His company has completed a range of advertisements for leading brands and he also works freelance as a director and camera operator. This has resulted in regular camera work on Channel 5’s ‘The Gadget Show’ and more recently as a camera operator for a major new ten part documentary series airing on Channel 4.
