EDEXCEL BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music

What will I learn?

You will study a range of units reflecting reflecting the nature of the music industry in the 21st century. These include Performance, Song-writing and Music Technology units, together with an exploration of careers within the music industry.

How is the course structured?

Each term of the 2-year course will consist of a music project including work from different units, and usually leading to some form of public performance or recording. Projects may be worded as follows:

“Working within a musical ensemble, write 2 songs and rehearse and perform them in a Music Department live event.”


“Taking a role in your group’s music production company, record a band in the recording studio and market the recording to an audience.”


How will I study?

You will be undertaking a range of tasks during the course. Many will be practical, some will be written. Throughout the course you will keep a logbook and build a portfolio of evidence which may include written work, recordings, video and photographs.

How will I be assessed?

All assessment is through your coursework, there are no formal written examinations. Every project will contain a number of assessment points, which will be assessed as Pass, Merit or Distinction. At all stages there are opportunities to reflect on your work and to resubmit it.
