how is the course structured?

 

The course is structured to enable you to undertake 17 units that build into the Level 3 Extended Diploma and is equivalent to three A levels. It is delivered through assignments and projects utilising different learning and teaching styles such as teacher-led demonstration, independent student-directed visual research, and skills development workshops. You will undertake collaborative projects with arts professionals and with our partners such as schools and galleries and you will undertake a number of visits to exhibitions, artist spaces and museums. Additionally, there will be opportunities for you to undertake community arts projects. There are ‘open studio’ times which you can use for individual experimentation and development of personal ideas and techniques

how will I study?

 

The progression routes for you as a student will be diverse. We will reflect this by offering you the opportunity to experience a full range of creative outlets suited to your interests and skills. You will enjoy the support from our partner design companies and art galleries offering exceptional work experience opportunities.

You will enjoy access to tuition, facilities and resources of the highest quality. You will have access to state of the art studios, including a textiles studio, a photography darkroom and a 3D sculpture and ceramics studio with a kiln. We also have a computer suite of MAC Pros with software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and In-Design.

what are the entry requirements?

We will be offering places to those students who have natural talent, passion and enthusiasm to perform at their full potential and beyond.

You will be selected onto the Visual Arts and Design course through an aptitude workshop.

what can I do after my BTEC?

This course is excellent preparation for a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design or a BA (Hons) Degree in specialised Visual Arts and Design areas such as Visual Communication, Fashion Design and Fine Art, or relevant employment such as in graphic design. Incorporated in your course are opportunities for work experience in relevant environments. The preparation of a personal portfolio for interview is a catered for and you will receive guidance and advice on interview techniques and on applying for higher and further visual art and design study.
